KOLKATA: The 107th Albatross Golf Tournament will be held at the Tollygunge Club in the city from Wednesday till Friday.
This is a World Amateur Golf Ranking meet and the first-ever tournament in Kolkata which will carry world amateur ranking points.
A total of 55 golfers from different parts of the country will take part in the tournament. The participants, who will be in the age category of six to 22 years, will be divided into six groups: AA, A, B, C, D E (Boys and Girls).
The tournament will be played in the Gross Strokeplay format, with categories AA, A, B, C & D (Boys & Girls) competing over 54 holes in the three days and Category E (Boys & Girls) challenging over 27 holes.
The practice round for the tournament was held at the Tollygunge Club on Tuesday.
Only participants in Category AA will be eligible to receive world amateur ranking points.
The primary aim of the Albatross Junior Tour is to encourage young golfers by holding competitive meets and training camps.
“This tournament allows local talents to get on the world amateur ranking points list. Also, it is a nice way to find some talented young golfers,” said veteran Indian golfer and coach Indrajit Bhalotia, who is also the director of this tournament.
“All social distancing norms and Covid-19 protocols will be strictly adhered to.”
